The Murau International Music Festival (MIMF) 2018 will take place from August 17th to the 25th and will consist of a workshop program for voice and composition as well as a three-part concert series. All composers have the opportunity to submit hitherto unpublished scores to this year’s theme of “Otherness”. The selected work will be premiered at the gala concert on August 24th under the artistic direction of Zane Zalis and will be performed again on the repeat date of the concert on August 25th.

    "I was in Murau for the first time for my performance at MIMF where I met lots of friendly people. It was a special honor for me to premiere as a soloist a new composition by Zane Zalis that he wrote especially for my performance! As a classical singer, working with rock musicians was a very unique experience and a challenge as well. Also working with a microphone and sometimes singing very softly or just merely breathing into the mic - at first this is very strange and unusual for an opera singer. But Zane encouraged and inspired me so that my performance in 2013 was a great experience for me – and I hope for the audience as well! I was pleased about the exchange of ideas with the other singers and musicians and especially about the enormous musical potential of the festival. Perhaps a similar collaboration will come about in the future!”

I flew back to Vienna after a performance with Martin Grubinger in Kiel, Germany and drove more or less directly to Murau. The last part of the trip was driven over a road; on the left and right there was nothing to see but forests and a couple of towns. But when I arrived in Murau I was surprised to see how professionally the festival is carried out. The quality of the music was very good and the atmosphere was great!”
